Group Texting!

Hello again.

January has come and gone. The 2018 election cycle should begin to gain some steam now with many primaries right around the corner. We wanted to reach out and provide some insight to what we do and how you can utilize our services for this election cycle.
Group Texting? Yes we do that!
Simple, effective, and inexpensive. With your own keyword your constituents can opt-in and begin receiving your group texts. Did you know that over 90% of text messages are read within 3 minutes of receiving it? That's a pretty amazing stat! Why is it simple? It's simple because we do the work for you. No need to learn new software, or navigate a GUI. We do that for you.
Group Texting Basics:
Keywords, short codes and opt-ins and how they work.

•  Short Codes - A short code is a 5 or 6 digit number that is used to send SMS (text) messages. Short codes are assigned and monitored by a central registry to make sure SMS traffic is compliant. Typically short codes are shared by a number of brands. Shared short codes are common among the industry. With us you can choose from three different short codes.

•  Keywords - A keyword is a unique word made up of letters and numbers that people will use to communicate and opt-in via one of our short codes. The basic idea is that a customer texts your "Keyword" to 72727 (our short code). When they do so, they are automatically added to your list of contacts.

•  Opt-ins - Compliance is very clear. Group Texting is permission based which means voters or customers need to give you permission before you can begin sending them messages. This is where keywords and short codes make it easy to build opt-in lists. In some cases, you may already have already received expressed written consent. If so we can begin texting very quickly.
How it works:
Much like our automated calling service we will do the work for you. This means you let us know what message to send out, to what group and when it should be scheduled. Once you create a keyword you can begin using email, your website, signage, or social media to promote your keyword. You can then build call to action campaigns built around your keyword.
Pricing is the same as doing automated phone calls. Prices drop with volume. Keyword rentals start at $20 month. No contracts ever.

Group Texting FAQ's:
Q - Can I buy a cell list and text everyone?
A - No you cannot. In order for someone to receive a Group Text message, each person will need to opt-in. Compliance is very clear on this.
Q - How many characters can I include in my text?
A - You can have up to 160 characters per text message.
Q - How long does it take to send out a group text?
A - Typically within seconds but usually within a couple of minutes. Short codes can send out up to 100 messages a second.
Q - How does billing work?
A - Initially, we are providing a "pay as you go" model. So the number of phone number x's the cost per text will determine the final amount due.
Q - Are there rules for promoting my keyword?
A - Yes. You must include the following language:
•That message and data rates may apply
•The frequency (e.g., max 2 messages per week) of messages
•Opt-out instructions (e.g., To unsubscribe, text STOP {KEYWORD} to (short code)

Record your message

How to record your message:

Note: Keep it natural like you picked up the phone and called the person yourself. If using a script avoid making it sound like you are reading off a piece of paper.

Call In Studio

We provide a convenient recording system that that we call the Call In Studio. Record your message from any phone but we do recommend that you use a land line to ensure the clearest quality recording. Simply dial 530-756-1540 and follow the prompts. You can record as many times as you'd like. Only the last recording is kept. Once you hang up the phone the Call In Studio sends an automatic email to the person on file. This allows you to review the message before we send it out.

You will need a job number and pass code before you record. You can email ali@politicalcalling.com or call 530-758-8864 to get setup.

Audio editing

Every message needs a little editing. Typically this means we increase volume on the recording as well as clean up dead air typically found at the beginning and ending of a recording. We never edit for content. If you need further editing, like cutting a piece of audio out or editing long pauses just let us know. There is no charge for audio editing.

In a future post we'll explain how to use the iPhone and the Voice Memos app to record and email us an audio file.

Simple, Effective Robo Calling Campaigns

How to use robo calls effectively:

Over the years we've seen time and time again that small to medium sized campaigns can compete with deep pocket campaigns by using robo calls. With a combination of surveys, absentee chaser and GOTV calls you can get your message out effectively without breaking the bank.

Phone list!

It starts with a targeted phone list. Here in California, most campaigns seem get their data from Political Data, Inc. You can find them here. We have no affiliation with them but they must be doing something right because we receive hundreds of phone lists from them every year that get used for automated calling projects. Working with PDI or your data company, you can pull a targeted voter list. Typically you are looking for high propensity voters or likely voters.

Survey Idea!

Once you have your targeted list, one idea is to run an automated survey. You can do a simple "race horse poll" run over a couple of hours in the evening and have a pretty good picture of where you stand. You can find a sample script here.

Absentee Chasers Idea!

Use robocalls to target Absentee Voters. Once absentee ballots hit the mail you can "chase" absentee voters with a couple of automated calls educating or encouraging the voter to consider your campaign or issue.

PDI or your data company can provide you with voters registered as Absentee and they can usually keep track of who's voted already. This is important so you don't waste time and money calling people that have already turned their ballot in.

Last but not least, GOTV calls! These are your last minute phone calls. Mail is too slow, tv and radio is sold out or not in your budget so what's left is automated phone calls. The most popular day for calling is the day before the election. Second most popular day is the Friday before the election. Saturday or Sunday seems to be a toss up as third most popular. These GOTV calls will be your last ditch effort to persuade the voter to get out and vote.

Pricing starts at 6 cents per call for up to a 30 second message. Get a Quote.
